This Chatroom is hosted on an IRC-Server on the AfterX-Network. All the usual IRC commands will work in this chat, if you want to connect with an IRC client like mIRC or BitchX then please connect to eu.afterx.net:6667 (Europe) or irc.afterx.net:6667 and channel #HarriesHideout.
1 - Login
On the Login-page you are able to choose a nickname for yourself, this nickname will be yours for the duration of your visit. If the nickname is alredy registered by a different user, you will get a notice and your nickname will be changed by the Chatserver.
There is no need to provide a password unless you registered your nickname. In this case make sure to always enter your password, otherwise the Chatserver will not know that it is you who registered the nickname.
2 - Chatting
After logging in the main chat window will load. On the bottom of the chatroom you will see a line where you can type your messages or commands. On the right side you will see all chatters who are currently in the room. The main part of the window is the message area, were all messages from yourself, other chatters and the system will appear.
To chat, simply type your message on the input line and hit "Enter" to send it to chat
In the userlist on the right side a name can have a symbol next to it. The most
important ones are:
House - Room Owner, Star - Room Moderator (Op), Half Star - Room Moderator
(Half-Op), Speaker - Verified User (Voiced)
Moderators and Op's are there to provide a pleasant chat experience for
everybody. If there are problems please contact them, they will be helpful
and try to solve everything that is thrown their way. They are human too, so
don't expect an immediate answer to any problem you confront them with. Be
respectful and civil, this is how they treat you as well.
If a Moderator asks or tells you to do something or stop a certain behavior, you are expected to comply immediately
3 - Private Chat
In this room it is possible to chat privately with other users. To open a private chat, click on the user you want to chat with in the userlist. You will see a small menu with 3 lines (PM, Whois, Ignore). Click on PM to open a private chat session. Alternatively you can double click a name in the list and a private chat will be initiated.
After starting a private chat, a new chat-tab will be opened with the name of the user you just selected. You can switch between the private chat and the main room by clicking the tabs on top of the message area.
To close a private chat, click on the small X in the private chat tab.
Click PM in the menu to start a private chat session
New private chat with Moose is open. You can switch between the private chat and the main chatroom by clicking on the tabs "#Harrieshideouot" and "Moose".
4 - Smileys
Right underneath the input line you will see a link to select smileys. Click that link to choose from some predefined smileys.
5 - Nickname
To change your nickname
you don't have to sign in again, you can use a command to change your nickname.
Commands start with a forward-slash "/" immediately followed by the command name. To change your
nickname, use this command:
If your chosen nickname is already registered by another user, you will get a notice to identify yourself, otherwise your nickname will be changed by the server within 20 seconds.
If everything goes well, a message will be sent to the room to notify all chatters that you just changed your nickname.
